Simple Tricks To Free Up Your Iphone Storage

Running console-quality games and clicking top-notch photos on your iPhone means your phone will run out of storage sooner than you think. So even if you are using a 128GB model, things can get out of your hands really fast.

As soon as you start seeing the annoying ‘storage full’ message on your phone, you won’t be able to install more apps or click more photos. For some, this may seem like the end of the world. Luckily, you can free up storage space without upgrading your phone. Here are some steps.

Unclutter the Home Screen

You can locate the applications taking up a lot of space by heading to the iPhone Storage section under Settings > General. Then, you must go through the list of applications and sort them by size. You will also find data on when you last used the apps.

Once you find the apps that are not relevant to you anymore, delete them by choosing Delete App.

Alternatively, you can declutter your Home screen and clear storage space. If you use the recent iOS versions, hold an icon until the menu appears. Then, choose the Remove app option.

If you use older iOS versions, hold the app icon and wait until the icons start jiggling. Then, tap the X icon and delete the application.

Find and Delete Downloads

iOS has confused users, especially those transitioning from the Android environment and becoming a part of the Apple ecosystem.

Unlike Android phones, iOS devices had no systematic files and folder structure. However, things are changing with the release of iOS 11, and iPhones now come with a dedicated Files app where you can view all your downloads.

Besides Files, you can check what you have downloaded by going to the App library.

The downloaded apps and files you don’t need must be deleted so your device’s storage can breathe.

Remove App Data and Cache Files

Apple lets you delete or remove apps while preserving their data. But maybe, it’s the residue data and cache that’s taking up space on your phone.

Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage and click on the arrow next to the apps listed. You will see how much data the app has used and the additional space it is taking up. If you wish to delete all the additional data you don’t need, go to the app itself.

For instance, you can delete the additional data saved by Google Maps by going to Saved > Maps > Maps data. Here, you will find data you had previously downloaded but don’t need anymore. You can delete this data.

If you love binge-watching shows and movies, go to the streaming app of your choice and click to view the downloads. Then, delete the ones you no longer need.

Clearing browser cache files is another way to free up space.

If you are using Safari and want to delete cache, go to Settings > tap on Safari > tap on Clear History and Website Data.

If you use Chrome, launch Chrome > tap on Options > Settings > Privacy > Clear Browser Data.

Clean The Photo Library

Do you love clicking pictures? Who wouldn’t, right? iPhones come packed with excellent cameras that capture life-like images.

Therefore, you cannot ignore the photo library on your phone. In fact, it is one of the first places to look and trim.

However, you cannot simply open the Photos app and delete all the pictures in the library. There are probably lots of pictures that are dear to you.

When you’re in the library, you must look for duplicate photos and those you have downloaded twice. Then, you can delete the duplicates. Also, check the similar photos and keep the ones that are good, deleting the rest. Furthermore, remove all the screenshots you don’t need and the large videos that only take up a lot of storage space.

If you do not wish to delete any photos or videos on your phone, the best solution is to transfer and upload them to the cloud. Then, delete them on your phone. Then, whenever you need those photos or videos, you can download them from your cloud account.

Besides these, you can delete texts that are taking up a lot of space. You can manually delete the messages you don’t want or set your Messages application to auto-delete text messages. If there are attachments in messages, delete them to save space.

The Bottom Line

So, start cleaning your phone, so you can install new applications and click more pictures. Furthermore, an uncluttered phone with lots of storage space means your iPhone’s performance will be boosted. As a result, you won’t experience lags that might have been hampering your user experience.
